When did food get so so complicated?

Nutrition is really about converting “food science” into “real life”, but often something is lost in translation. Either we get so caught up in numbers, calories and vitamins that we forget how to eat; or we are continually confused by all of the new exciting promises made by food companies and self-proclaimed gurus.

I first decided on a career in nutrition because I loved food, and I wanted to help people.

I had seen my own relationship with food transformed, from seeing food as the enemy and trying to strictly control everything that I ate; to learning how to value and nourish myself by making positive choices.

Eating is an incredible tool for connection. It connects us to our own bodies and our need to look after ourselves, it connects us to our environment when we become conscious of how food has been grown and produced, and it connects us to others through shared social and emotional experiences. One of my favourite things about what I do is being able to restore those connections.

I believe that you cannot really change a behaviour until you change the belief that underpins that behaviour. This is why I encourage my clients to look at the “big picture” of what's going on, and to dig deeper until they find a place of real freedom and growth.
